“I recently lost my Dad in October 2023 and he had gathered up quite a collection of model railway locos, rolling stock and associated items.
After emailing a few places and getting a few “not entirely enthusiastic” replies, I happened to see “Model Railway Emporium” in a google search, it particularly stood out to me as the location was quite close to my Dads.
After a couple of messages and calls Greg kindly came to see the collection (I had absolutely no idea what I was dealing with!)
It’s a good job he did come down as he told me he already knew my Dad, had recognised the house and had traded with him in previous years!
That instantly made me feel at ease with Greg, the guy is polite, kind hearted, down to earth, humble, honest and knowledgeable about his trade without being arrogant or clever. Greg took the time (and a second visit) to gather up information and we agreed on a very fair price.
I didn’t help matters by constantly finding additional items dotted around the house in various rooms and hidden away boxes but Greg took everything in his stride and we began to build a great amount of trust and friendship throughout the process of boxing everything up, lifting the track (thanks to my Dad screwing the track down I only want to do this once in my lifetime!!) and getting everything from an awkward loft space to his car (The loft cobwebs were a bonus item!)
I was absolutely dreading the process of selling this collection, I thought I was going to be completely out of my depth for dealing with it but Greg made the whole event painless and quite a joy to be honest!
We’ve chatted about anything & everything throughout the process and I’d like to think of Greg (especially with his previous dealings with my Dad) as not only the person who bought the trains but now as a friend too.
I’m sure my Dad would be very happy that Greg is the recipient of this collection, I hope it gives him as much pleasure (and profit!) as my Dad had collecting it.
Thanks again Greg, you will be the 1st person I think of should anyone need a recommendation, I would have no second thoughts on passing your details to any prospective client and would happily sing your praises from the rooftops.

Over the course of the last year I sold my husband’s large model rail collection to Greg Barker’s Model Rail Emporium. I was very pleased to do business with him. In every respect I found him to be honest, trustworthy and utterly reliable. He has been a pleasure to deal with as he is also courteous, thoughtful and helpful.
Greg offered me better prices than a reasonably large number of other dealers whom I contacted. There were occasions when he was unable to offer the price which I had anticipated but he was always willing to explain the reason why his offer was lower – which I could rarely argue with!
Greg never pressured me into accepting prices I was unhappy with or wanted me to sell exclusively to him. I began the process of selling my husband’s collection as an absolute novice and always felt confident that Greg was not taking advantage of my ignorance. He is now selling pieces that he has bought from me and I can see that his selling prices are as fair as his purchasing prices.
Greg very quickly established mutual trust between us: there was no question of holding back money in case items were not as described nor quibbling over their condition. This was very reassuring as inevitably I found the whole process of selling my husband’s collection, following his death, distressing. Greg was always sensitive to my feelings and treated everything with respect.
I would recommend unreservedly The Model Rail Emporium. I do not believe that I could have found a better buyer and I would expect that you could buy from Greg with equal confidence.
